The Prophet ﷺ · Sahih Muslim

One of the great reforms the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) brought was in the rights and treatment of the poor. He taught that Muslims are obliged to look after those in need and to spend from their wealth to help them. Idris Mosque follows that teaching.

Financial assistance is available to people in need. Verification of income is required and must be submitted with the Idris Mosque financial assistance request form, together with the following:

1. Prior year’s federal tax return, or a W-2 or 1040 statement
2. Bank statements for the last two months
3. A current printout from state unemployment
4. A current check stub or other proof of income

Only complete applications can be considered. Applicants are contacted within three days, inshaAllah. Submit completed applications to the ICW treasurer at the mosque.

وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِي عِلْمًا

“And say: My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”

Working towards a better tomorrow: classes for children, youth and adults, taught by the mosque’s sheikhs and teachers.

Weekend Islamic School

For children ages 5 to 17. Students study Qur’an memorization, Islamic studies, and Arabic language reading and writing. Registration is open; the schedule and tuition are on the flyer.

Youth classes (ages 11 to 17)

A series of free virtual classes for young people, held every other Wednesday from 6:00 to 6:30 PM with Shaikh Abdullahi Jaranow. The classes cover general topics in Islam and how they apply to young people’s lives.

Qur’an memorization

A course to help you memorize the Qur’an, taught by Shaikh Mahmoud on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after Salat al-Asr.

For sisters

A free weekly class in beginning Qur’anic Arabic for non-native speakers (Sundays, 6 to 9 PM, taught by Nana Defrawy; call (425) 563-5432 for details). The bi-weekly sisters’ halaqa is paused for now; email askus@idrismosque.com to join the class or to hear when the halaqa resumes.

وَمِنْ آيَاتِهِ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَاجًا لِّتَسْكُنُوا إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةً وَرَحْمَةً

“One of His signs is this: that He has created mates for you from yourselves, that you might find quiet of mind in them, and He put between you love and compassion.”

Couples wishing to marry at Idris Mosque should be aware of the following requirements before completing a marriage request form and making an appointment for the ceremony:

• Marriage is not performed between a Muslim woman and a non-Muslim man.
• A marriage license issued by a county in the State of Washington must be obtained and presented to the mosque’s authorized officiant before the ceremony.
• Written approval of the marriage by the respective fathers or recognized Muslim guardians must be shown before the ceremony; this applies especially to the bride.
• A completed, written and signed agreement on the mahr (dowry gift) to the bride, between the bride’s guardian and the groom.
• A spoken commitment, with intention, from husband and wife to practice the tenets of Islam and its obligatory duties.
• Marriages and receptions held at the mosque follow Islamic standards: no alcohol, drugs, sensual music, dancing, singing, free mixing of men and women, or immodest dress.
• Two Muslim male witnesses who know the groom must be present.
• The bride’s wakeel or wali (guardian) must be present at the time of the marriage, regardless of her age.
• A reasonable donation or fee is contributed to Idris Mosque.
• An appointment with the officiant to finalize questions and confirm the requirements must be completed at least one week before the marriage date.

إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ

“Indeed we belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return.”

Qur’an 2:156

Burial takes place at the Islamic Cemetery Garden, a dedicated Muslim section within Abbey View Memorial Park, 3601 Alaska Road, Brier, WA 98036, about twenty minutes north of the mosque.

مِنْهَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ وَفِيهَا نُعِيدُكُمْ وَمِنْهَا نُخْرِجُكُمْ تَارَةً أُخْرَىٰ

Through years of community fundraising, the Idris Mosque cemetery fund established the Islamic Cemetery Garden, an exclusive section within Abbey View Memorial Park in Brier. It is now ready and receiving burials.

The cemetery fund also provides graves for those in need, so that every member of our community can be buried with dignity.

أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ

“Truly, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”

Idris Mosque offers Islamic counseling to Muslim families and individuals through the religious office of the Islamic Center of Washington, by appointment.

Requests for counseling, unless in an emergency, are scheduled as soon as possible and no later than one to two weeks after the request is made. Sessions are held at the mosque unless special arrangements are needed.

All counseling is confidential and held in strict confidence, except for information that the law requires to be disclosed to state or law enforcement authorities, such as child abuse, danger to self or others, or crimes against persons.

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَىٰ وَجَعَلْنَاكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَائِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوا

“O mankind, We created you from a male and a female, and made you peoples and tribes so that you may come to know one another.”

Welcome to Idris Mosque, the house of Allah and a place of worship for Muslims. We offer tours of the mosque by appointment for school groups, interfaith visitors and neighbors. Each tour ends with a short talk and time for questions.

Visitors are encouraged to share their areas of interest before coming, so the visit can speak to the questions about Islam you care about most. We believe it is important to learn about and share our similarities, and to discuss our differences, so that we can live and work together in peace.

When you visit

• Please remove your footwear when entering the mosque, and wear clean socks (no bare feet).
• Please dress modestly. For women: no sheer or tight clothing, halter tops, shorts, or skirts above calf length. For men: no bare chests, tight or sleeveless shirts, or exposed underwear.
• Go light on scents: strong perfumes, colognes and after-shaves are best avoided.
• Controlled substances, weapons and intoxicants are not permitted, nor is eating, drinking, horseplay or shouting inside the prayer hall.
• A scarf, hat or loose head covering for women visitors is not required, but appreciated.

Homeless outreach
