Zakat al-Fitr
زكاة الفطر
The charity every Muslim gives at the end of Ramadan: $25 per person, as set for Ramadan 1448, paid any time in Ramadan and before the Eid prayer — expected Tue, Mar 9, 2027, subject to the moon sighting. It purifies the fast and makes sure that families in need can celebrate Eid too. Pay it early, so that the mosque can distribute it in time.
A purification for the one who fasted, and food for those in need
فَرَضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ زَكَاةَ الْفِطْرِ طُهْرَةً لِلصَّائِمِ مِنَ اللَّغْوِ وَالرَّفَثِ وَطُعْمَةً لِلْمَسَاكِينِ
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ made Zakat al-Fitr obligatory as a purification for the one who fasted from idle talk and indecent speech, and as food for the poor.”

Zakat al-Fitr, also called sadaqat al-fitr, is an obligation on every Muslim who has more than a day’s food on the day of Eid. The head of a household pays it on behalf of everyone they support, including children.
The Prophet ﷺ prescribed it as a measure of staple food. Today the mosque collects its value in money and uses it to feed families in need locally, through the mosque’s financial assistance program, so that no one is left out of the celebration.
It must reach those in need before the Eid prayer, and it may be paid at any point during Ramadan. The earlier it is paid, the more time the mosque has to distribute it well.

The amount is set by the mosque each year, based on the local cost of staple food.
Who pays
Every Muslim with more than a day’s food on the day of Eid. The head of a household pays for each dependent, including children.
When
Any time during Ramadan, and before the Eid prayer at the latest — Eid al-Fitr is expected Tue, Mar 9, 2027.
Paying early gives the mosque time to distribute it.
In person
Cash or check at the mosque office.
Paying in person avoids the card service fee.
Pay your Zakat al-Fitr
Enter the number of people in your household; the form works out the total and takes debit and credit cards. A service fee is added to card payments. To avoid it, pay by cash or check at the mosque office.
